Interested in winning cash and prizes just for making the world a better place?
Helium, Semtech, Arm, STMicroelectronics, and the global developer community at Hackster.io have teamed up to give developers a little extra incentive build LoRaWAN®-based Internet of Things (IoT) applications using connected devices that are designed to make the world a better place. If you want to use your embedded development IoT skills to join in the fight against things like COVID-19 while winning cash and prizes, come be a part of it.
What Can You Win?
Let’s start with the prizes. We are pleased to provide some substantial incentives for your participation. Totaling just under $15,000 the prizes include cash, Helium Network Data Credits and hardware. There will be five winners in all:
- First place will take home $2,500 in cash, $2,500 worth of Helium Network Data Credits and a brand new Helium Hotspot.
- Four runners-up will be awarded $1,000 in cash, $1,000 in Helium Network Data Credits and their own brand new Helium Hotspot.
But Wait, There’s More…
In addition to the $15,000 up for grabs as part of the prize pool, 75 Helium Development kits will be given to those who submit their ideas about their applications and are approved. Approvals are being handled on a rolling basis, so submit your ideas early—before the 75 kits disappear.
Each Development Kit, courtesy of STMicroelectronics, includes the ST B-L072Z-LRWAN1 (often called “The Disco”), and the ST X-NUCLEO-IKS01A3, a MEMs expansion board for the Disco that makes it easy to sense things like temperature, humidity, pressure, and much more.
Already have Helium hardware? Great! You’re ready to jump right in and start building your solution today.
What Will You Build?
Cash, prizes, and freebies aside, the #IoTforGood initiative is really about using your highly-differentiated skills in hardware, embedded development and connected devices to make the world a better place. For some inspiration, just look to some of the growing set of applications that have been submitted in just the past week. Some highlights include:
- Air Quality Monitoring
- Remote Crowd Monitoring
- Fire Detection for Urban and Suburban Environments
- Office Attendance Tracker
- Water Quality Monitoring for Remote Locations
- Local Oxygen Reactor
The World Needs YOU!
Now is the time to share your skills with the world and build something great. COVID-19, climate change, homelessness, resource depletion, natural disaster prevention, famine; all of these can be combated in some way using connected devices and the Helium Network. What problems can you solve in a world where ubiquitous, LoRaWAN connectivity isn’t a blocker?
Join us by registering for #IoTforGood and start building. Who knows, you might change the world.
